UN Retirees Partake in Protecting Their Coastal Zone

On March 12, 2025, 3C took a small group of United Nations retirees in Bangkok to experience the outdoors. As the urban heat in Bangkok builds up in the hot season, the handful of former UN staff visited the Mangrove Nature School in Bang Kaew, Samut Songkhram Province, Thailand, and helped to re-forest a bare area of mangrove. It was the first time for many of them to engage in hands-on planting of mangroves. They were impressed with learning about the importance of mangroves and how these trees can protect the shoreline. Two hundred seedlings were planted. We hope to have a high survival rate which 3C will go back to monitor in the future.
In addition to planting, Village Head Daeng, gave a tour of the Mangrove Nature School’s Education Center. He explained some of the traditional fishing gear, some of which are still used by artisanal fisher folk around Thailand.
