WASH for Healthier Lives and Water Ecosystems
WASH (WAter, Sanitation, and Hygiene) is an integral part of people’s livelihood, conservation, and climate change impacts. In developed countries, even the poorest communities have easy access to toilets and clean water for drinking, hand washing, and bathing. Unfortunately, this is not the case in many parts of the developing world such as Cambodia. Challenges due to lack of access to WASH can impact freshwater ecosystems, crops, domestic water usage, overall hygiene and health. Communities also have difficulty adapting to the impacts of climate change, especially with increased global warming.
In Sonlong Village, Chansor Commune, near the newly built modern Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, Cambodia, three households do not have adequate WASH facilities.
-
2 families do not have the most basic toilet and have to use their neighbor’s bathroom.
-
The other family possess some WASH facilities, but is still lacking infrastructure.
Also in Chrey Village, Sambour Commune, south of Siem Reap City, one family did not have adequate WASH facilities.
3C provided WASH solutions for these communities, so that residents can engage in good hygiene practices, ensure that domestic waste is contained within the sewage system, and be resilient to climate impacts.
