Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) to
Climate Change for Siphandone Villages
From 8-27 May 2023, 3C partnered with Last Forests (https://lastforests.org/) and helped six villages in southern Laos develop EbA plans to address the impacts of climate change to the natural environment as well as to the local communities’ livelihoods. Participatory Rural Appraisal was carried out in the villages of Don Phapheng, Don Khone, Don Xom, Hangsadam, Hangkhone, and Don Det to gather information and better understand the cimate-related threats to the villages. Together with the community, EbA plans were developed with proposed solutions and actions that need to be taken to mitigate climate impacts. In all six villages, similar issues were raised that included: a decrease in fish stocks and naturally-foraged foods; increased incidents of flood, drought, high air temperatures that cause loss to rice harvests and livestock; lack of alternative livelihoods. In cooperation with local governments, the next step will be to select the solutions that need to be urgently implemented.
